My Artist's Life

Some days my life is quite black and white, on other days my life is full of color.
Some days I'm a little flippant, and on others...it's just all business.

A huge thanks for contributing your thoughts.
Enjoy your visit,
Marsha

New Watercolor...Last of my Floral Collection

Marsha Robinett / 7 Comments

This Pink Gladiolus has been sitting in my file for sometime...just waiting it's turn.  The painting has quite a story behind it or perhaps had "quite a story ON it".

I had just about finished the painting when a friend stopped by with her 3 year old granddaughter.  Her granddaughter had to go 'potty' and since the bathroom is just across from my studio grandma and I went in to admire my latest painting.

Grandma had coffee and was standing a couple of feet back so as not to take a chance of spilling anything.  All the sudden...the bathroom door flew open and in came Jessy...running full force and grabbed grandma by the legs.

What happened next was like a slow motion movie.  The coffee cup went up...coffee flew into the air...and on to the painting.  She was mortified.  I wasn't happy but truly think I felt worse for her than for me.  I took the painting immediately to the sink and rinsed it.  Even at that I lost a good third of the painting.

I let the painting sit for a week...pondering what could be done with it.  I cut off the worst damage on the right and fiddled with what remained until I had what you see now.  The background was much lighter but for the most part, what I have here is good.  Love the large flower...there were two more to the right and a couple of buds.

Oh well, a lesson learned...keep a closer eye on children when in the studio.  It was such a child like happening who could really be mad at anyone.  Grandma WAS standing cautiously back and Jessy....she did what children do...ran to give her grandma a hug.

Getting Back in the Swing of Things

The Picture you see here is just a "Preview"

Wow...it's good to be back.
I intended to take some time off from blogging to focus on the art I need to get done for my November show.  I also slipped in a quick trip our east to New York for a visit with my daughter and grandson.  As I've mentioned before...I just hate it that they are so far away.  I don't get to see them nearly often enough.  Sure didn't realize it had been over a month since posting on my blog.

Since I returned from New York...I've been deep in the creative mode of doing the layout work for several paintings and drawings I need to complete for my November gallery show coming up.  I know it is several months away but with my work schedule on my "other jobs" (the ones that pay the bills)...I only have a couple of days a week to seriously paint.

I have a couple of new pieces done and will post them as soon as I get them photographed.

I mentioned a while back that my framer was doing her Spring / Summer window.  I took some photos of her display...using ALL my paintings and drawings...I'm sharing those with you here today.

Keep in mind...these are through the display glass and you will also see reflections from the street lights.  The bright spring green fabric back drop and the display lighting attracts your attention from a block away.  There are always people admiring her windows.  What an opportunity for me and what a blessing she has been in my life.

Hope you enjoy the photos..as you can see her display windows are filled with "only" my paintings and drawings. She has a huge old fashioned store front and uses my art exclusively for her framing examples. I have my own "Private Gallery" window and my work is displayed year round for all to see.
